CFA’s own client-driven CAD assessments.
The CFAeX Knowledge Assessment is CFA’s own set of objective, leveled CAD assessments — Revit, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Architecture (2025/2026), plus Graphisoft Archicad 29. Multiple-choice, auto-graded, no software to install.
It adds structured evidence of software knowledge and office/project judgment to a hiring discussion. A CFAeX result complements a résumé, portfolio, interview and practical work sample; it does not by itself establish who can perform the work.
The two work together. A client-driven assessment confirms software knowledge when a firm asks for one; CFA Match Intelligence, used on every opening after our matchmakers’ review, finds whose project experience actually fits the role.
Generic exams test what the software can do. CFAeX assesses what the work should be.
The placement loop. CFA is a 40-year NYC architecture referral registry. Certify with CFAeX and you don’t just earn a badge — you get seen by the firms actually hiring. No exam vendor places architects & designers.
The review process. The revised banks received documentation-based and AI-assisted content review. Independent practitioner validation, hands-on software testing and representative human pilots have not been completed. CFA’s portfolio-review history is not evidence of empirical calibration of these questions.
The office and project judgment section. Eight of the 32 questions cover CAD Management, contributing 32 of the 80 available points. These questions address standards, collaboration, deliverable quality and software-specific project decisions. The result provides evidence of knowledge and judgment on the assessment; it does not independently verify practical performance in a live project.
CFAeX, briefly
Is CFAeX an Autodesk certification?
No. CFAeX is Consulting for Architects’ independent knowledge assessment, not a certification sanctioned by Autodesk, Graphisoft or Certiport. CFA’s historical training-center credentials do not establish instructor authorship or validation of the revised banks. The result is one input to a hiring or development decision.
What does CFAeX cost?
Free for talent in the CFA network. Retail assessments are $279 for Archicad 29, $279 per release for Revit, $229 for AutoCAD, and $249 for AutoCAD Architecture, and every seat includes two attempts. The price reflects what the credential opens: not a paper certificate, but a foot in the door at the firms that hire through us, the referral registry that has matched architects and designers since 1984. Custom firm assessments are scoped per engagement.
How do the assessments work?
32 questions in 40 minutes, with eight questions each from Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and CAD Management. Questions carry 1, 2, 3 and 4 points by tier, for 80 points overall. Multiple choice, auto-graded online, nothing to install. The passing threshold is 70% (56 of 80 points); 80% and 90% begin the High Pass and Distinction ranges. These describe assessment performance, not professional competence. Every seat includes two attempts.
Which software and releases are covered?
Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Architecture (2025 and 2026), plus Graphisoft Archicad 29.
The pedigree behind the assessment.
We are not sanctioned by Autodesk, Inc. or Certiport. We are not an Authorized Autodesk Training Center, Reseller, or Partner. AutoCAD® and Revit® are registered trademarks of Autodesk, Inc. CFAeX certifications are issued by Consulting for Architects, Inc. and are CFA’s own credential.
