Our client, a respected New York City architectural practice known for its technical excellence and design integrity, is seeking a Senior Project Architect with a valid New York State Architectural License and 8–10+ years of experience to lead teams and guide complex projects from concept through construction.
Description:
The Senior Project Architect will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of multiple projects while maintaining the highest standards of design and technical accuracy. This role requires a licensed architect with deep NYC experience, strong leadership skills, and hands-on knowledge in construction administration, permitting, and coordination. The ideal candidate balances design sensitivity, technical expertise, and project leadership, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring project quality.
Responsibilities

Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with leadership, consultants, clients, and contractors

Produce and oversee architectural drawings, details, and technical documentation, ensuring design intent and quality standards are maintained

Navigate NYC DOB permitting processes and ensure compliance with local laws and building codes

Interpret NYC Planning and Zoning resolutions and assess their impact on project feasibility and site strategy

Review and approve technical drawings and construction documents

Oversee construction administration, including site visits, inspections, surveys, RFIs, and submittals

Research new materials, products, and systems, and assist in developing specifications

Maintain and expand CAD, Revit, and Rhino libraries and firm standards

Translate design intent into fabrication drawings and coordinate with fabricators, contractors, and consultants

Participate in hands-on fabrication and mock-ups as needed
Requirements

Licensed Architect in the State of New York – required

Bachelor of Architecture from an accredited institution; Master of Architecture preferred

8–10+ years of professional architectural experience, including significant NYC project work

Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office

Experience with Rhino, 3ds Max, SketchUp, or similar modeling/visualization tools

Minimum 5 years of practical on-site construction and project coordination experience

Minimum 3 years leading production of construction document sets

Strong technical drawing, detailing, and fabrication knowledge

Hands-on fabrication or workshop experience a plus

Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills
Salary Range:
$80–160k, depending on experience
