The firm is known for creating thoughtful, expressive, and timeless environments while balancing each project's unique program, budget, and schedule requirements.
Description:
Our client is seeking a Mid-Level Interior Designer or Architectural Designer for a freelance or project-based opportunity focused on multifamily and affordable/social housing projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a designer with strong residential design sensibilities who can create elevated, thoughtful interiors while working within strict project budgets.
This position is primarily remote, with the ability and willingness to source materials in person throughout Manhattan and New York City as needed. This includes shopping at the A&D or D&D buildings, visiting local showrooms/stores, and researching online. The role will support projects during the Schematic Design phase and involve space planning, finish material selection, material sourcing, value engineering, and technical documentation. The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving quickly between design development, sourcing materials, preparing FF&E specifications, drafting in AutoCAD, and participating in client and project team meetings.
The workload will vary based on project needs, with some weeks requiring part-time availability and other weeks requiring availability closer to a full-time schedule. Candidates should be able to adapt to changing project demands and maintain consistent communication throughout each assignment.
Candidates should be highly organized, design-focused, and able to respond quickly to feedback and revisions in a fast-paced production environment. Experience with multifamily, affordable housing, or agency-subsidized housing projects is strongly preferred.
Required:
- Mid-level experience in residential or multifamily interior design or architecture
- Strong interest in or experience with multifamily and affordable/social housing projects
- Strong AutoCAD drafting skills
- Own computer with a current AutoCAD license and Adobe Suite
- Experience with space planning and finish material selection
- Experience sourcing and specifying interior materials and finishes
- Ability and willingness to source materials in person throughout Manhattan and New York City
- Ability to research materials, order samples, review pricing, and identify budget-conscious alternatives
- Experience preparing FF&E specifications and technical documentation
- Strong design presentation skills
- Proficiency in SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to accept feedback and execute revisions quickly and accurately
- Flexibility to work part-time during some weeks and closer to a full-time schedule during others, depending on project needs
- Familiarity with NYC showrooms, vendors, and the local design community preferred
- Revit experience is a plus
- Experience or familiarity with HPD, HDC, NYCHA, or other agency-subsidized housing projects is a plus
Education:
B.Arch, B.Interiors, M.Arch, or M.Interior Design.
Salary / Hourly:
$45-55 p hour
Work Arrangement:
Primarily remote, with in-person material sourcing throughout Manhattan and New York City as needed. Workload will vary by project, with some weeks structured as part-time and others requiring availability closer to a full-time schedule.
